Learn to climb where American sport climbing took shape. This full-day, beginner-focused trip at Smith Rock State Park combines technical coaching, supportive guides, and iconic canyon climbing — perfect for those ready to push comfort zones in a safe setting.
The Experience
Before You Go
Hydrate for high desert heat
Bring at least 1–2 liters of water and drink regularly — there’s little shade on approaches and the sun is strong.
Wear approach shoes
Climbing shoes are provided for routes, but wear sturdy approach or hiking shoes for scree and short scrambles to the belay.
Protect your head and skin
Helmets are provided; bring a brimmed hat and high-SPF sunscreen to avoid late-day sunburn in exposed canyon sections.
Arrive ready to learn
Be prepared for hands-on instruction and short practice climbs — mental readiness helps more than prior experience.
